Mr. Justice Sopinka, B.A., LL.B. Born in Broderick, Saskatchewan, March 19, 1933; son of Metro and Nancy [Kikcio] Sopinka. Educated at University of Toronto [B.A., LL.B.]. Married Marie Wilson in 1956. Children: Melanie and Randall.
Called to the Bar of Ontario, 1960; Bar of Newfoundland, 1973; Bar of New Brunswick, 1975; Bar of Saskatchewan, 1984; Bar of Alberta, the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, 1987. Practised law at Fasken & Calvin and as Counsel to and Senior Partner of Stikeman, Elliott. Created Q.C., 1975. Instructor, Bar Admission Course, 1965-69. Lecturer at Osgoode Hall Law School, 1974-82, and University of Toronto Law School, 1976-84.
Lecturer at the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Bar Association. Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada and Chairman of Committee on Advertising and Certification Board. Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Author: Sopinka, Lederman & Bryant "Law of Evidence in Canada" [Butterworths] and "Trial of an Action" (Butterworths).
