Welcome to an experimental web page created by Electronic Frontier Canada. The purpose of this web page is to illustrate how easy it is to defeat simple Internet filtering mechanisms that are meant to block access to controversial content on the Web.
If you want to try it out, just pick your favourite URL and follow the instructions below.
- 1.
- Type the name of a web server
- 2.
- Type in the rest of the URL (or leave it blank)
- 3.
- Click on the button!
If our little experiment is successful, then a temporary web detour will be created for you, similar to the picture below.
Here are a few web detours that some other people have already created:
| http://detour.efc.ca:8080/ | --> | Government of Canada | = | http://www.gc.ca/ |
| http://detour.efc.ca:8081/ | --> | CNN / Sports Illustrated | = | http://cnnsi.com/ |
| http://detour.efc.ca:8082/ | --> | Netscape Communications | = | http://www.netscape.com/ |
| http://detour.efc.ca:8083/ | --> | Yahoo! Canada | = | http://www.yahoo.ca/ |
| http://detour.efc.ca:8084/ | --> | Playboy | = | http://www.playboy.com/ |
| http://detour.efc.ca:8085/ | --> | Playgirl | = | http://www.playgirl.com/ |
The web detour that is created only reroutes the raw network data. No editting or filtering is done. Therefore, we take no responsibility for any of the information you gain access to through the web detour you asked to be created.
Please send any questions or comments about web detour, to [email protected]
