Dr. Ann Cavoukian is the Assistant Commissioner with Ontario's Information and Privacy Commission, where she is responsible for the protection of personal privacy and ensuring that provincial and municipal organizations comply with the requirements of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Acts. This involves activites ranging from responding to complaints and issuing Investigation Reports on breaches of the Acts, to proactive policy research exploring the threats to privacy posed by such diverse areas as telecommunications and information technology, genetic testing, and video surveillance. The mandate of the Commission also includes commenting on the privacy implications of proposed legislation and government programs.

Dr. Cavoukian joined the Commission in 1987, during its start-up phase. Prior to that, Dr. Cavoukian headed the Research Services Branch of the Ministry of the Attorney General, where she was responsible for conducting empirical research on the administration of civil and criminal law.

Ann received her Ph. D. in psychology from the University of Toronto, where she studied psychology and criminology, and lectured on psychology and the criminal justice system.
